Sun exposure is the single biggest risk factor. Patients must stay out of direct sunlight two weeks before and two weeks after treatment, avoid sunless tanning for four weeks prior, and maintain constant sunscreen coverage. Expect some swelling, possible bruising, and treated brown pigment to darken over the next 7 to 10 days before sloughing off. Less common risks include blistering, infection, and temporary changes in skin tone. Your provider will assess your skin type, medical history, and medications before recommending BBL.
